Unique in so many ways, Madagascar has romance and adventure written all over it. With wildlife-rich national parks, deserted golden beaches and enchantingly romantic lodges, it is an unmatchable combination of wild adventure and sun-kissed idyll. Taking in the rugged beauty of the Andasibe National Park and the remote shores of the Anjajavy Peninsula, this rapturous journey provides a truly unforgettable Madagascar experience.

After a leisurely breakfast and a trip briefing you will be taken by road this morning on to the stunning Andasibe National Park, set amongst the primary forests of Madagascar’s north-eastern landscapes. Arriving at your lodge in time for lunch, the afternoon is then free to relax and enjoy the facilities of the lodge, or perhaps head out in search of some of the 11 species of lemur for which the park is famed, including the iconic aye-aye.

Covering some 154 square kilometres, Andasibe National Park is a paradise for birders and home to more than 100 species, including many endemic individuals such as the Madagascar yellow brow, the Madagascar serpent-eagle and the blue cuoa. The daily company of the park’s knowledgeable guides will make spotting these rare specimens a memorable and informative experience and leave you wanting to return for more.

Another day in the park provides more opportunities for exploration and wildlife viewing, with a chance to spot some of the other species resident in the park including the Indris, the largest living lemur on the island, which can reach up to one metre in height. And the beautiful surroundings back at the lodge, along with the superb food and warm Madagascar hospitality, makes time in between activities a welcome treat

Boat Trip

  • We will start to visit Moramba Bay. This is usually a morning trip that leaves the hotel at 9h00 or 9h30 and is back for lunch. It is an extremely rewarding trip if you are interested in the plants and birds of Madagascar but at the same it is as beautiful as it is interesting for its scenery of small islands, beaches and baobabs.
  • Moramba is the best place to see the rare Madagascan fish eagle and dozens of baobabs – This is one of our “must do” excursions.
  • Cocktail trip up the Mangrove by boat. This is a lovely sunset cruise up the mangrove estuary to enjoy a cocktail and the silence of nature. Birding enthusiasts may see water birds that they haven’t been able to see around the hotel, such as the Madagascar sacred ibis, and it is the only place around the hotel where you could see the Madagascan flying fox.

  • Fishing at Anjajavy is world class in every aspect: the sea around the hotel is teaming with fish, July and August are our only slow months and not because the fish are not around but because it is our windy season.
  • Saying that, June is the start of a long sailfish season and August is the start of the Marlin season that runs through until the end of January.
  • We recommend that if you want to go BIG GAME FISHING that you fish for no less than five hours; this will give you time to get to and fish the best marlin and sailfish spot in Madagascar.
  • It consistently produces marlin over 350lbs and in September we had to break a line with a Marlin we fought all afternoon and could not land or even get close to the boat. On these trips you may also catch Dog Tooth Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna, Wahoo, King
  • Mackerel and most other big pelagic game fish.

Land Activities

  • Through tsingy (limestone rock formations) covered forest to discover the principal endemic species of Malagasy flora and fauna.
  • Discovering the majestic baobabs, where the hairy crab (endemic) and wonderful birds are founds. This walk also includes exploring a small cave for the adventurous.
  • A guided adventure walk begins by being dropped off by 4×4 and then heading out on foot to discover an underground world of stalagmites and stalactites.
  • The bay to bay walk along the Anjajavy peninsula with its wild, untouched bays. A Robinson Crusoe day can be arranged for clients with a private picnic on one of the beaches.
  • Guided night walks are also offered to disovered the nocturnal inhabitants of the reserve which include mouse lemur, fat tailed dwarf lemurs, Milne Edwards Sportive lemurs, greater hedgehog tenrec, Madagascar flying foxes and Commerson’s leaf-nosed bat, amongst others.

After breakfast and a chance for final farewells, you will be transferred back to the airstrip for the schedule flight back to Antananarivo and your onward flight arrangements. Should you require, we can make arrangements for you to have access to a room at a hotel close to the airport during your layover.
