MAGIC OF MADAGASCAR

Day 1 : ARRIVE IN ANTANANARIVO

  • Meet your in-country representative at the airport before setting out on this unique Malagasy adventure.
  • Please be aware that your driver will be waiting for you at the International Arrival gate.
  • An airport sign with your name should be seen and you may have to look for a logo if the airport gets overcrowded. If you cannot locate your driver please remain calm and approach the Airport Welcome Service.
  •  An announcement intended for your driver can be broadcasted there, and this will then become the rally point. In the case of an emergency or you cannot locate your driver, the emergency contact details are on your documents and you should call the mentioned numbers before attempting to leave the airport. 
  • You will be given your welcome package including maps and more, then be transferred to your hotel.
  • Overnight at Hotel.

Day 2: ANTANANARIVO- ANDASIBE

  • After breakfast, we start drive eastward through the highlands to Andasibe. We will stop over at Reptiles Park.
  • Visit Mandraka Park, here you can see some of endemic chameleons, snakes, insects and reptiles of Madagascar. After the visit here we will continue to follow the road to Andasibe.
  • In the evening, before dinner, enjoy a night walk looking for the many nocturnal creatures.

Day 3: ANALAMAZAOTRA

  • After an early breakfast you will be taken to the rainforest at Andasibe, where the main objective is to see – among other species – the remarkable Indri. Hearing their whale-like calls emanating from the mist-enshrouded rainforests in the early mornings, is pure Malagasy magic at its best.
  • During the dawn chorus birding is wonderfully productive too. In the quieter middle part of the day, visit Lemur Island, a refuge for lemurs confiscated from trappers.

Day 4 : ANDASIBE – MANTADIA NATIONAL PARK

  • Today you will be taken on a visit of the beautiful 10,000ha primary rainforest national park of Mantadia. It is about 37km north of Andasibe and holds a select band of mammals, birds and ‘herps’ not necessarily present at Andasibe.
  •  Key attractions include Diadem sifaka, Black & white ruffed lemur, Scaley and Blue-headed ground-rollers; Parson’s chameleon and colourful Mantella baroni frogs, among others. The scenery here is beautiful.
  • Night and dinner at the hotel

Day 5 : ANDASIBE- ANTANANARIVO

  • During the morning you will be taken on a final rainforest walk in Andasibe-Mantadia, during which you can seek species previously not seen. A visit will also be made to the reforestation project under way by Association Mitsinjo: this is one of the many inspiring initiatives now being supported by Money for Madagascar.
  •  After lunch, drive back to Antananarivo.

Day 6 : ANTANANARIVO-MORONDAVA- KRINDY  RESERVE

  • After   breakfast we ‘ll  transfer to Ivato Airport then fly to Morondava.
  • Upon arrival we’ll star our journey to Kirindy reserve consider this one of the most rewarding wildlife habitats in Madagascar, but remains overlooked by many visitors
  • In the afternoon , we’ll visit the  deciduous forest reserve remains one of the best places to catch a glimpse of the elusive fossa, a carnivorous cat-like mammal that is endemic to the island. It is also home to a number of endemic dry forest species such as the giant jumping rat (not as bad as it sounds), narrow-striped mongoose and pygmy mouse lemur, along with over 70 species of bird found here. Plenty of lemurs allow for some wonderfully close-up shots and as many of the lemurs here are nocturnal, night walks are particularly.
  • In the evening, explore on foot, looking out for the nocturnal creatures that inhabit this dry forest environment. Look out for dwarf lemurs, chameleons and endemic giant jumping rats.
  • Night and dinner at the hotel.

Day 7: KIRINDY- BELO SUR TSIRIBIHINA –TSINGY OF BEMARAHA

  • After breakfast, load into 4×4’s and head out on sandy roads heading north to Bekopaka, before arriving cross the Tsiribihina and Manambolo rivers by local ferry.
  • Keep your keen eye’s on a swivel as this area is also known for its vast bird and wildlife population. There will be plenty of opportunities to stop off for photos
  • Diner and Overnight at Hotel.

Day 8: TSINGY OF BEMARAHA NATIONAL PARK

  • Explore both the Petit Tsingy and Grand Tsingy. The whole protected area, comprising a surface of 1.575 km square was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.
  •  While hiking in the park, you will observe the beauty of these limestone pinnacles, a hike leading you through narrow gauge, climbing on top (harness is a must), walking on a suspended bridge, and toward the cathedral where you may spot lemurs, the Giant rat, the Giant coua, Madagascar green pigeon, and many more.
  • Diner and Overnight at Hotel.

Day 9 : TSINGY OF BEMARAHA-MORONDAVA

  • Today start the return journey by road, across the car ferry pontoon to Belo Sur and the long dusty road back to Morondava.
  • En route, you can also stop at the ‘baobab amoureux’ which is a natural twisted baobab 5 km from the main road. Baobabs are distinctive trees adapted to thrive in harsh conditions. Six of the nine species of baobabs are found only in Madagascar so it’s no surprise that this is the national tree.
  • You may have a second opportunity for photographing the Allée des Baobabs before arriving at your base for the night.

Day 10 : MORONDAVA-MIANDRIVAZO -ANTSIRABE

  • After early breakfast, we’ll drive to Miandrivazo where is the perfect lunch stopping, we’ll  pass through rural Madagascar with small villages dotting the road. Miandrivazo is , the area sits on the outskirts of Tsiribihina Delta, surrounded by marshes and mangroves.
  • After lunch we’ll continue to Antsirabe where is Madagascar’s third largest city, where colourful and chaotic streets are crammed with brightly painted rickshaws (pousse-pousses). Used as a retreat by Norwegian missionaries, who founded the city in the late 1800s, the town has now grown into a colourful, vibrant and fascinating place to spend the night. Traditional wooden buildings sit alongside imposing protestant and catholic churches and the market here is considered one of the best in Madagascar.

Day 11 : ANTSIRABE- ANTANANARIVO-DEPARTURE

  • After an early breakfast, you will return to the capital (approximately 3 hours).
  • Arrival in Antananarivo, we will then enjoy an afternoon guided walking tour of the old city, learning about the country’s royal history at the Rova palace complex and enjoying a view out across the city.
  •  In the evening,  you will a enjoy farewelll dinner as you say goodbye and then transfer to Airport to check in your flight back home.
