MADAGASCAR LARGEST LANDSCAP

Day 1 : ARRIVE IN ANTANANARIVO

  • Meet your in-country representative at the airport before setting out on this unique Malagasy adventure.
  • Please be aware that your driver will be waiting for you at the International Arrival gate.
  • An airport sign with your name should be seen and you may have to look for a logo if the airport gets overcrowded. If you cannot locate your driver please remain calm and approach the Airport Welcome Service.
  •  An announcement intended for your driver can be broadcasted there, and this will then become the rally point. In the case of an emergency or you cannot locate your driver, the emergency contact details are on your documents and you should call the mentioned numbers before attempting to leave the airport. 
  • You will be given your welcome package including maps and more, then be transferred to your hotel.
  • Overnight at Tripolista Hotel or Similar.

Day 2: ANTANANARIVO – ANTSIRABE (170km = 4h driving)

  • Depart early after breakfast for Antsirabe. Antsirabe   know as the city where we can find much minerals, across the Highland landscape with a beautiful rice Fields.
  • On the way stop over in Ambatolampy for short visit the family cooking –pot factory.
  • Travel around the town by rickshaw or we will have a walk in the sacred lakes: “Andrakiba” in the afternoon.
  • Dinner and overnight at Royal Palace Hotel or Similar .

Day 3: ANTSIRABE – AMBOSITRA (91km = 2h driving)

  • After breakfast, continue south to reach Ambositra – the cradle of Malagasy art, also called the city of the roses. This is the capital of wood carving in Madagascar.
  • Dinner and overnight at Grand Hotel or Similar.

Day 4: AMBOSITRA – ANTOETRA – ZAFIMANIRY VILLAGE

  • After breakfast we will drive to village Antoetra, it is about 40 km southeast of Ambositra .From here we start hike to reach Zafimaniry Village , named for the tribe living  in the dense, eastern forests are especially distinctive .Their fine and delicate woodwork has achieved worldwide acclaim.
  • On November 2003, this woodworking skill was proclaimed by the UNESCO as masterpiece of human oral heritage.
  • Late In the afternoon we will drive back to Ambositra.
  • Dinner and overnight at Grand Hotel or Similar.

Day 5: AMBOSITRA – FIANARATSOA (180km = 3h driving)

  • Our next destination is Fianarantsoa where we will take a train.
  • From Ambositra we continue to the south, the landscape is dominated by rice fields, forest of pine and eucalyptus and Rocky Mountains.
  • We then arrive into Fianarantsoa where we check the hotel for one night.
  • Diner and Overnight at Zomatel or Similar.

 Day 6: FIANARANTSOA – MANAKARA  (depending for the train schedule)

  • Fianarantsoa is connected to Manakara on the eastern cost by Madagascar’s only functioning passenger train service. The train leaves Fianarantsoa too early about 06 am.
  • During your journey, you will have dozen stop before arriving in Manakara which is distance of 170km .Adventures will be filled with the sense of discovery as the train winds along at a slow pace, amongst green carpet for part of the trip and interrupted by torrents and cascades between old-time railroad stations. In spite of uncertain scheduling, travel by train provides unforgettable memories.
  • Arrival in Manakara in the afternoon. Manakara is quite town.
  • Diner and Overnight at Parthenay Club or Similar.

Day 7: MANAKARA (Pangalane‘s Excursion)

  • After breakfast, have an excursion on Pangalane Channel by canoe for visiting the fishing village and clove plantation.
  • Picnic lunch time.
  • In the Afternoon back to Manakara.
  • Diner and Overnight at Parthenay Club or Similar.

Day 8: MANAKARA  – RANOMAFANA

  • After breakfast  we will drive back to Ranomafana by road Thousand of surprise await you along this lively route that winds between hills .A myriad of species of lush vegetation abound , including majestic rosewoods , tree-like ferns, bamboos, Ravinala( traveler’s tree), and banana tree. Upon arrival at Ranomafana, we will check your hotel then have lunch at the Restaurant.
  • In the afternoon you may swim in the thermal pool.
  • At the night time is possible to do the nocturnal visit to find for example the tiny Mouse lemur.
  • Diner and Overnight at Setam Lodge or Smilar .

Day 9: RANOMAFANA NATIONAL PARK

  • Visit of the Ranomafana rainforest. The best time of the day to discover the diurnal species of Fauna, probably we will find lots of birds, frogs, lemurs and the others. We hope to see « golden bamboo lemur ». There are also floras rich with orchids, tree ferns….
  • Diner and Overnight at Setam Lodge or Smilar.

Day 10: RANOMAFANA – AMBALAVAO – RANOHIRA

  • From here we will drive through a number of the small villages before reaching Ambalavao. The landscapes again superb with great views of vineyards, terrace rice paddies and rocky outcrops.
  •  Visit the « Antemoro paper factory ».It is a vestige of the Arabian civilization in the island.
  • After the lunch, drive to Isalo with a picnic lunch, you will cross the high plateau of Horombe which offers a very peculiar landscape, characterized by multitude of small palm trees.
  • Reaching Ranohira we try to have Sunset on the window of Isalo.
  • Ranohira is the place where we will spend two nights.
  • Diner and Overnight at Isalo Rock Lodge Hotel or Similar.

 Day 11: ISALO  NATIONAL  PARK

  • Our adventure begins with a trek in the Park. We walk to the canyon de Namazaha to look for ring-tailed lemurs and the others lemurs.
  • Look for the yellow flowering Pachypodium rosulatum (especially beautiful in September and October), almost spherical baobab tree, and Euphorbia tree.
  • Lunch time picnic.
  • In the afternoon we pass the Natural swimming pool for a bath.
  • Diner and Overnight at Isalo Rock Lodge Hotel or Similar.

Day 12: RANOHIRA – TOLIARA – IFATY(284km = 7h driving)

  • After breakfast, continues on the coastal city of Toliara a green an oasis emerging from the dry semi-desert landscape. For those interested in botany we will stop and visit the “Arboretum d’Antsokay” about 15km before the city, it is splendid botanical garden gathering most of endemic species from this part of the south, from  here we take a few hours’  driving  to Ifaty.
  • Dinner and overnight at Dune d’Ifaty Hotel or Similar.

Day 13: IFATY

  • Day reserved to relax on the beautiful Beach of Ifaty and possibility to practice the water sport like as: Diving, snorkeling, sky….
  • You may see migrating whales pass nearby through the Mozambique Channel between Julys to September.
  • For those who are interesting about the birds here is the best place for bird-watching.
  • Dinner and overnight at Dune d’Ifaty Hotel or Similar.

Day 14: IFATY -TOLIARA

  • Drive back to Toliara .En route  you will pass expanses of dry forest then we will take a short visit into “Reniala” private reserve for the breeding station the tortoises and species of Baobab, birds…..
  • Dinner and overnight at Amazone Hotel or Similar.

Day 15: TOLIARA – ANAKAO

  • After breakfast ( for those not returning to Antananarivo), transfer to the jetty and embark by boat to Anakao , situated to the South of  Toliara .Anakao offers the perfect coastal retreat after the long journey south , set next to a fishing village enjoy spectacular sunsets as you watch the fishing fleet land –a mass of multicolored  boats and sails. There are a wide range of excursions available from the hotel: snorkeling, boat trips, quad biking and visit Nosy Ve.
  • Dinner and overnight at Anakao Ocean Lodge.

Day 16-17: ANAKAO

  • Excursion and visit can be organized from the hotel , do not miss excursion on the island of Nosy Ve , a beautiful island protected by coral reef , where you  can find multicolored fish , lobsters, shells, a variety of different corals , and of course the famous bird Paille en Queue.
  • Dinner and overnight at Anakao Ocean Lodge.

Day 18: ANAKAO – TOLIARA –ANTANANARIVO & DEPARTURE

  • After an early breakfast, back to Toliara by boat then transfer to the Airport for your return flight to Antananarivo.
  • Upon arrival in Antananarivo, we will then enjoy an afternoon guided walking tour of the old city, learning about the country’s royal history at the Rova palace complex and enjoying a view out across the city.
  • In the evening,  you will a enjoy farewelll dinner as you say goodbye and then transfer to Airport to check in your flight back home
